sales-directory-submission
Directory submission service comparison — helps choose between managed, automated, and hybrid directory submission services (GetMoreBacklinks, ListingBott, LaunchDirectories, StartupSubmit, SubmitSaaS, AutoSaaSLaunch, SubmitJuice). Covers DIY vs managed decision, service model comparison (done-for-you manual vs AI-automated vs self-serve Chrome extension), pricing analysis ($29-$999 one-time), delivery speed, directory count and quality, DR improvement expectations, and ROI framework. Use when overwhelmed by how many submission services exist, not sure if managed submissions are worth paying for, comparing GetMoreBacklinks to ListingBott or other services, trying to decide between doing submissions yourself or outsourcing, or want to understand realistic DR improvement from paid submissions. Do NOT use for DIY directory submission strategy (use /sales-launch-directory). Do NOT use for a specific submission service's features (use the platform skill, e.g. /sales-getmorebacklinks).
What this skill does
# Directory Submission Service Comparison
Helps choose the right directory submission service — or decide whether to skip them entirely and submit manually.
## Step 1 — Gather context
If `references/learnings.md` exists, read it first.
1. **What's your goal?**
- A) Improve domain rating for a new site (DR 0-20)
- B) Backlinks for an established site wanting incremental SEO lift
- C) Social proof ("listed on 100+ directories")
- D) Save time — know directories matter but don't want to do it manually
2. **How many products do you need to submit?**
- A) Just one
- B) 2-5 products
- C) 6+ (agency or serial launcher)
3. **What's your budget for submission services?**
- A) $0 — DIY only
- B) Under $100
- C) $100-250
- D) $250+
4. **How important is control over which directories?**
- A) I want to pick every directory myself
- B) I trust a curated list if it's tailored to my product
- C) Don't care — just get me listed everywhere
**Skip-ahead rule**: if the user's prompt already has enough context, jump to Step 2.
## Step 2 — Route or answer directly
| Problem | Route to |
|---|---|
| DIY directory submission strategy | `/sales-launch-directory` |
| GetMoreBacklinks-specific questions | `/sales-getmorebacklinks` |
| Specific directory platform help | `/sales-{platform}` (e.g., `/sales-producthunt`, `/sales-betalist`) |
| SEO audit or backlink tracking | `/sales-semrush` |
Otherwise, answer from the service comparison below.
## Step 3 — Service comparison reference
**Read `references/platforms.md`** for detailed per-service breakdowns (pricing, directory count, delivery speed, model).
Answer using only the relevant sections — don't dump the full reference.
## Step 4 — Actionable guidance
You no longer need the reference — focus on the user's specific situation.
### Quick decision matrix
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| New site, $0 budget | DIY with `/sales-launch-directory` — submit to 10-15 free directories yourself |
| New site, want DR boost fast, <$150 | SubmitSaaS ($60-140) or LaunchDirectories ($119-219) — manual, fast delivery |
| Want maximum control, technical founder | AutoSaaSLaunch ($29) — Chrome extension, you drive |
| Want completely hands-off, budget $200+ | ListingBott ($299-999) — 100 curated from 10K+ database, 4-5 week gradual rollout |
| Serial launcher or agency (multiple products) | AutoSaaSLaunch ($29 unlimited) or compare per-product services |
| Already have DR 30+, want incremental lift | Probably not worth it — directory backlinks move the needle most for low-DR sites |
### The DIY vs managed decision
**Pay for a service when:**
- You value your time above ~$12/hour (100 manual submissions = 8+ hours)
- You're launching and need submissions done in days, not weeks
- You don't want to research which directories are worth submitting to
**DIY when:**
- You want to optimize each listing individually (taglines, screenshots, descriptions)
- You're targeting high-DR directories where listing quality determines acceptance
- You want to engage with communities (Indie Hackers, Product Hunt) — services can't do this
**Hybrid approach (best for most founders):**
1. Manually submit to the top 10-15 high-value directories using `/sales-launch-directory`
2. Use a submission service for the long tail of 50-100+ lower-tier directories
3. Track results in Ahrefs/Semrush after 60-90 days
### Setting realistic expectations
- **Only ~24% of submissions actually get indexed** by Google (industry average across services)
- **DR improvement is gradual** — expect 5-20 points over 2-3 months for low-DR sites
- **Directory backlinks compound** — individual links are weak but 50+ create a foundation
- **Services can't replace community engagement** — Product Hunt, Indie Hackers, and HN require authentic participation
If you discover something not covered, append to `references/learnings.md`.
## Gotchas
- **Every service's comparison page ranks itself #1.** Take "best of" blog posts from submission services with heavy skepticism — they're SEO content marketing, not independent reviews.
- **"250+ directories" doesn't mean 250 live backlinks.** Acceptance rates vary (40-70%), and Google only indexes ~24% of approved listings. A "200 submissions" service may yield 50-80 indexed backlinks.
- **Per-product pricing adds up for serial launchers.** Most services charge per product/domain. If you're launching 5 products, a $150 service costs $750 total. AutoSaaSLaunch's unlimited model is the exception.
- **Gradual submission matters.** Services that blast 200 submissions in 48 hours can trigger spam signals. Gradual rollout over 2-5 weeks looks more natural to search engines.
- **Low-DR sites benefit most.** If your DR is already 40+, directory submissions provide diminishing returns. Focus on content marketing, guest posts, and PR instead.
## Before recommending a specific platform skill
This skill covers a strategy domain across many platforms. **Before pointing the user to any specific platform skill** (any `/sales-{platform}` listed in `## Related skills`), read that platform skill's actual `SKILL.md` first.
**How to read it:**
- If `~/.claude/skills/{skill-name}/SKILL.md` exists locally, `Read` it.
- For `sales-*` skills, `WebFetch` directly from this repo: `https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sales-skills/sales/main/skills/{skill-name}/SKILL.md`.

## Examples
### Example 1: Choose a submission service on a budget
**User says**: "I just launched a SaaS tool and want to get listed on directories. Budget is around $100. Which service should I use?"
**Skill does**:
1. Confirms new site, single product, budget ~$100
2. Recommends SubmitSaaS ($60 for 60+ directories) or LaunchDirectories Starter ($119 for 30+)
3. Explains the tradeoff: SubmitSaaS is cheaper with more directories but LaunchDirectories tailors the list to the product
4. Suggests hybrid: use the service for bulk, then manually submit to Product Hunt and Indie Hackers
5. Sets expectations: 5-15 DR points over 2-3 months
### Example 2: Managed vs DIY decision
**User says**: "I have time but not sure if I should submit to directories myself or pay someone. Is it worth it?"
**Skill does**:
1. Presents the time math: 100 directories = 8+ hours manual work
2. Explains what services can and can't do (they can't engage communities for you)
3. Recommends hybrid: DIY the top 10-15 high-value directories, outsource the long tail
4. Routes to `/sales-launch-directory` for the DIY portion
5. Suggests AutoSaaSLaunch ($29) if they want self-serve with automation assist
### Example 3: Compare services for an agency
**User says**: "I run a dev agency and want to submit client products to directories. Need something that works for multiple products."
**Skill does**:
1. Notes most services charge per product — costs multiply fast
2. Recommends AutoSaaSLaunch ($29 unlimited products) for self-serve automation
3. For hands-off per-client: LaunchDirectories or SubmitSaaS with per-product pricing
4. Warns about quality: automated submissions may have lower acceptance rates than manual
5. Suggests building an internal process using `/sales-launch-directory` as the playbook
